The more I inspected the more I found. Just not content with the superglue finish on the first build. IMG_3302.JPG

Just curious, we had some PA guys down at deer camp 4 years ago. They had a buddy who built recurves he wanted a limb from Osage orange tree. Well 1st we had to look up Osage orange tree and then we tried to find the straightest limb we could find. Not sure how it turned out. Have you used Hedge Apple in any bows?

Yes; the best wood for selfbows. I have used it for laminated bows also for the yellow color but can use any wood in these type.

Just caught up on this build. Thanks for sharing the process again. Hopefully those withdrawals drive you to give us another bowyer lesson.
Speaking of using the osage, do you do many bows out of a single piece of wood (stave?)

Most laminated bows do not begin as a stave, they begin as a board. Only thin strips or lam's are used except in riser.

Do you do any non-laminated? I'd assume that would be the typical first build for someone interested in making their own?

I have done selfbows, that's what got me started making bows. It's been several years though, I am only building this type now. Give it a try sometime, but be warned, this stuff is addictive!

That's what I'm afraid of. Been reading the Traditional Bowyer's Bible. The history lesson alone is fascinating.
