They're free alright. Turned loose on these strip jobs by the owners so they won't have to feed them. When it comes a hard freeze for several days they make their way off the strip for running water. In the highways and in people's yards where they end up until the cold snap is over. State lets it continue so.....
I’m a horse guy, but there is absolutely no reason this should continue.
Ridiculous. State needs more money, load up these horses imo. There's plenty of them. And most are healthy and in good shape
Maybe the dept will do a wild horse lottery; create more funds.
A lot of the horse problem started when they stop sending them to slaughter houses. Also the cost of upkeep a lot of horse lovers found that they couldn't afford. At the monthly auction here one guy said he took two horses to sell. Had them hitched to his trailer , went to the restroom and when he came back out he had four horses hitch to his trailer. Pony's were even worse, if you didn't want a pony you better not bid a single dollar on one or you got one.
We discovered when I got drawn for a cow elk hunt in 2011 that most are pretty tame. You could probably start walking one and the rest would follow. Anyone want a horse? Go get em!
I was leaving a mine one evening and some fella ran his deisel out of fuel (and jackknifed his horse trailer) blocking the entire road on a real steep grade. I got out to help them and the whole family was in there and acted teally weird. Fella said they had dumped their horses and his wife and daughter was real upset and scared i was going to call the law on them. Had to wait nearly 2 hours for someone to bring them fuel. Fortunately no coal trucks came up or down or would have been a real mess.
How do dem backstraps taste?
Asking for a friend.
I know a guy that would love to eat a couple. Not on my menu, but it might be a reasonable way to find use for them.
Theres plenty of horse meat for sale in Europe and about everywhere but the USA.
I doubt if the slaughter market ever opens up but it's a real waste of resources for it not to. You couldn't give me one.....money pit.
I hear they are delicious, they eat them in many other countries.
No thanks. I can’t imagine it could possibly taste better than beef.
Heck nothing tastes as good as a quality Ribeye..
They do but the mental part if you knew what you were eating would likely be problematic.
