Here was Sunday morning. I'm really impressed with the pre-emergence this year. By far the cleanest sunflower field I've ever had thus far. I basically no-tilled another 1/2 acre at the end of my plot. They have a little more vegetation but nothing to be concerned about. Considering last year's field, these are CLEAN!!

Same spot last year on June 3rd.

My field isn’t taking off like it should, the only thing I didn’t do by the book is weed control because I don’t have the equipment to do so, the sunflowers have been about 4 or 5 inches tall for about 2 weeks and the ragweed is catching up, the only ones that are growing are the ones that are competeing with weeds to get sunlight I guess if it don’t turn out then the deer will have some browse

You do have a few more options. One is cultivation. But I'm sure if you don't have a way to spray, you're probably not going to have a set of row cultivators around either. The first year I planted sunflowers, I had a set of 6 row cultivators set on 30" rows. I ran them about every week from now til the time I couldn't get down the row. It kept a lot of weeds down and pushed dirt up on the rows. Basically, how old timers grew corn before round up was invented. I've been around farming my whole life, but only 3 years on sunflowers. The biggest thing I've learned is sunflowers won't grow if you don't keep the weeds under control. At least for the first couple months.

I will be interested to see your results huntsitall. I like the looks of hunt4life field. Hopefully yours will look the same! Next year hopefully I find the time and have things workout to where I can spray before I plant. This year I will be using Clearfield sunflowers and lightning again like last year. Seed was $11/lb at southern states, planted 7 acres and used 12 lbs of seed. Purchased the $100 bottle of Lightning and will spray when 2-4 leaves on the sunflowers. Wont be able to get to the farm until this weekend to see if anything is coming up.

6B78D40F-C84E-4F29-A1E2-6BA5318E4D25.png Planted on 5/25. I’m behind comparing to most of everyone else. But it looks like I got a good kill on the weeds for now.

My resizer app isn't working like it has been.... I had to reduce the size so small, it made it a little blurry.

Couldn’t do anything about weed control, but last year around August planted some buckwheat that was given to me and after it played out I didn’t think anything about it but after disking and planting sunflowers this year seems that I have a good stand of buckwheat from last years crop

Lookin good Huntsitall. My buddy let me borrow his spray rig. What a difference having the right equipment makes! First picture was last year spraying with my equipment and second picture was spraying last night with his equipment.

This is a pic of my 2nd planting. Planted on 6/4. Hoping to help spread the season some with different maturity times. You can see the earlier planting to the left. D91ED121-F655-47E0-A17A-24D305537E5F.jpeg Also had about 3 acres left of the 8 acre field. So I planted some corn!! Might chop some and just blow it on the ground if not many birds. Or pick it for the deer later on. 06C7FF38-AFEE-4C73-BE94-3C093936BE95.jpeg

Sunflowers are coming right along. We should have some heads opening this week. A little earlier than last year but should be okay.
