Chickens were a tad cramped in the coop I built, I built it for 10 or so and ended up with a few more.. Also in the old coop they would all fight for the highest roost now they have three all the same hight , all are 8' long so plenty of room. I still need to trim the outside, paint and figure out the besting boxes.. Chickens have a nice double wide now.. lol

You would think with as warm as it is they would spread out and maybe they will once they are grown..

We have 14 (had 16, found one dead in a nesting box, and one of our original birds croaked it was 6) there is a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" nesting bar 8' long in ours (it was here when we moved in). All 16 would try to get on it, but 14 is all that'd fit. It slopes bout a 5" sag in the center! :) Wife hates the chicken house. I built her one at the old place and she loved it. But we didn't bring it, too much hassle. She wants me to build a new one but there are to many projects currently. Maybe over the winter I'll surprise her with one. Birds like to huddle so don't expect em to spread out to much. Ours typically now have 10-11 on the roost and 1-3 on the lower bar. Keep em some cross ventilation that you can open in the summer and close for the winter.

I put in a few AC covers you can open and close. I put a magnet sheet over it in the winter to help stop drafts.

the hens next door came over again today. my sister lives next door, got four of them hen's. at night they get fastened up. they are free roam. got to admit over the year's, i had bad problems. the dog next door, killed 27, hens of mine. the neighbor said to shoot the little varmint. i thought about it. i got 2 horses. i figure the retaliation didnt add up. sure was a big slue of egg's, back then.

hey brother I like your repurposed corn crib makes a perfect chicken run. I have 6 older hens and 10 6 wk old isa browns the older ones free range in my back yard while the young ones have a fenced in run, you probably know this but coop ventilation is very important winter and summer. check out backyard chickens thanks and good luck with the predators

I just had a thought after looking at your pictures .You have the roost with flat 2x4's Try round poles and see which they prefer .
I have always seen round poles in chicken houses and never flat ones . After all they have claw feet just like any bird and are meant to grip on a roost .
