Letcher county bears

    I have a buddy whose family has land in Letcher county. They says they see bears frequently. Will they still not be hibernating when gun season opens in 2 weeks. I am up for a road trip but hate to waste my time if they are denned up. tia

    I live in Letcher County, we see more bear than deer now.

    A lot depends on the weather. From my understanding after talking to bear biologists here, most of our local Bear really don't have a long term hibernation period if any at all.

    If the weather is average temp or above, the Bear will stir. If it's cold and snowy those chances decrease big time.

    I hope you kill, I hope your family kills, I hope all your buddies harvest bear.

    FYI, if you do kill, be prepared for a lengthy interrogation from KDFW.

    In our area bears don't hibernate full time because of our moderate temps
