Found a few more today at a quick hunt, I think 57 was the count, some really big ones. I think the season will be over after this weekend in Menifee County.

The first one I ever found was this year. One morning I fried some up for breakfast . I put the bowl on the table and I told my wife she could have just one little one.
Now when I am going back to cut a log or two she hands me a bag.
I think season is about over for me .

Seems they've been some ppl around here have allergic reactions to the black morels. These folks have hunted& eat em for years. They said it was pure misery coming out both ends until their system was clear. They won't even try a yellow/ grey one now because of it. Anyone had this experience?

I never read anything that I considered to be a definitely correct answer to your question. Some say it damages the mycelium when you pull the morel. Other say, by pulling the mycelium, you cause the mycelium to Y (light pruning a tree) and it becomes more productive because you disturb it. Who knows! Just don't be cutting or picking the ones behind my house!

I don't think anyone knows the facts lol. Ive read both as recurve stated. I guess it's JMO and it makes for more of a mess in the bag.

Thats funny you say that. I was thinking about calling you the other day to see if you would give me a tutorial on finding these dang things. I did find a couple the other day in your general area that were expired. I have got to get on some. My kids are like dope fiends with them.

I hunted a spot high upon a mountain Sunday morning, 95% of what we found were beyond picking to eat. Later that day I hunted a couple lower elevation areas around some creeks and found about 25 nice fresh yellow ones. I was thinking they would be gone by now but I am still seeing fresh ones in places. I will try to remember to post a pic later if I can.
