Mushroom hunting

  1. Always looking for mushrooms during season. I rarely find them. I wonder if I am to late in the season. If I may question? What are the best conditions to look for? Temperature? Sunny hillsides? Type of hardwoods? Soil conditions?

We always did well back east in poplar thickets with the occasional elm tree mixed in. If you could find a recently dead or dying elm it was even better. Blacks pop first, then yellows on later. We always waited for consistent 55 degree nights. A light night rain with sunshine in the morning always seemed to pop fresh ones. I'm sure there are fellas more scientific than myself cause mine is all boots on the grounds self education.
