We're leaving Friday for Canada on our annual bear hunting trip. My son will be hunting with his bow this year. If he holds it together at 15yds out of a ground blind black bear hunting he will have the 1st couple sits on trying to harvest DD. Last year DD showed up on camera in daylight 2nd day of season, no one was hunting. This year maybe a little different....

Well, it's official. My son will have the 1st couple sits on DD. He held it together on an awesome black bear at 17yds from a ground blind. The bear went maybe 80yds after the shot. He used a Mathews chill X bow and the rage hypodermic broadhead. His buddy who was also hunting killed the biggest in camp over a 2 week period of hunters....

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Here are couple most recent pictures of DD....I pulled the card Sunday when we got back from Canada. We had almost 3,400 pictures in 8 days. DD was very visible this camera check. Several daytime pictures(early am)and quite a few in the evening right at last shooting light. He's lost just about all of his summer hair now, just a little on his neck. He'll be shedding in the next couple weeks...

My son's was 230# and his buddy's was 340#....we had bigger bears on camera, but we couldn't pull them in before dark. They were border line a couple times, but they just didn't feel comfortable enough to come in. We waited several times until we couldn't see anymore hoping to just get a glimpse of one of them. It made for an interesting walk out in the dark. We didn't use lights to walk out because we didn't want to bump them because we knew they were close by. The one night right at dark we had a limb break on a ridge directly behind us, being dead calm we both knew it was one of the big ones warning any small bears that big boy was coming in, we waited and he never showed. A couple mornings later, same bait, we checked cameras and the bait was cleaned out and we had one of the big ones in at 730am. While standing there a large limb broke not 60-70yds back in the bush. With hardly any wind we knew what it was. We dumped the bait and walked out....

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Well, as the pictures show DD is no longer in velvet. What a difference. I noticed from about the middle of August that really about the only thing that had changed from last year on him was the width. His left side brow grew and he lost the 2 drop tines he had on that side also. His right side is weaker this year with the rt side g2 losing a couple inches. His mass seems to be the same from last year to this year. Not a whole lot of noticeable difference to us. We have a score in mind and we actually debated on passing him this year. We have people on all sides of us that will be hunting. So, we're undecided. We know if he walks by any one of these other guys will take him in a heart beat...hopefully he'll look different in person......
