I plan on going hog hunting with some friends in Georgia in February. Having never been, I have a quick question about weapons choice. I have a bolt action 30-06 and an AR-15. Which would you guys choose for this hunt?
Im a big fan of the Barnes TSX for the hogs down here in Florida. Pick your flavor weight and use whatever your gun likes best. Im guessing with a 1:9 yours will like the 55 gr. Also used 62 gr Fusions and 64 gr Powerpoints with good success. I shoot a 1:7 but your 1:9 should work well with those weights. 2 inches behind ear and 2 inches down, never had one run more than 20 yards. You do your part and they are DRT.
I have only bow hunted for them but I would take the AR, they have lots of good hog rounds out now. Interestingly the only one I killed was with a knife, quite a rush !
Are you going to an outfitter? I'm trying to find a good place to go this winter but haven't found anything yet. Any suggestions?
We are going to an outfitter in south Georgia. Honestly that's all I know. I'm not organizing the trip, so I'm just trusting the other guys to pick a good place. I don't like doing it that way though...
