It should. Now is a great time to work bees. If they are mean now wait until July….Seems to have stopped, but I have only gotten into them once since I requeened and it was only a few moments and no smoke.

We are more of a hindrance than anything. Thanks, that’s what I was thinking but the stuff you read about bee keeping talks about cleaning and inspecting the hives so I wasn’t sure.
I have descent sourwood so they haven't been to bad in July/Aug, but it's only my 3rd year! @bigbonner I've thought bout that myself, it would have worked great yesterday! First one this year was on the side of their hive. Second was 30yds from the hive (same hive), and they gathered on a branch that was on the ground at the base of a tree. Some were on the ground too. So it wouldn't have worked on either of those but yesterdays for sure!It should. Now is a great time to work bees. If they are mean now wait until July….
I know every swarm we have caught was 8 feet down to three feet off the ground.I have descent sourwood so they haven't been to bad in July/Aug, but it's only my 3rd year! @bigbonner I've thought bout that myself, it would have worked great yesterday! All of mine always hit in top of trees. Mainly cause I live in the woods. Nothing really down low.I know every swarm we have caught was 8 feet down to three feet off the ground.
I wonder if this mean something weather wise.
Last year most of our swarms was12 to 15 feet off the ground.
My uncle always called a hive a gum and explained to me why when I was just a little boy.Old fashioned way of doing it, thought this was pretty cool.
I haven’t tried the single brood method yet. Glad it’s working out for youGot in my strongest hive this past Saturday and about crapped my pants! They came out of winter in double deeps, very strong. I found a frame with queen cells back in mid April so I removed it, got a few more frames and made a nuc out of it. I put a medium super of drawn comb on top of the 2 deeps at the same time. About a week to ten days later I shook all of the bees that were in the top deep, along with the medium, into the bottom deep. Put a queen excluder on, then 2 mediums and the now empty deep on top of them. I inspected this hive Saturday and that top deep was nearly full of honey, some of it was starting to be capped! The two mediums below it were nearly full as well. I put another medium of drawn comb above the queen excluder and put it back together. If they keep going like they are there is no telling how much honey I'll get from them. Never seen anything like it!
I have three other production hives that are making honey like crazy too. Two are 8 frame hives, one deep box (brood chamber) queen excluder, then 3 honey supers above it. The other is another 10 frame hive, one deep box (brood chamber) queen excluder, then 3 honey supers above it. That one is from a swarm call back on April 21st.
This is the first year (on my 10th year or so) that I have tried the single brood chamber deal... Seems like its working for honey production!
Bee gum is all we ever heard them calledMy uncle always called a hive a gum and explained to me why when I was just a little boy.
My new bees could knock out Rocky Balboa. I opened the top and almost instantly about 50 bees hit me in the face net. My Weiner dog was 20 ft away and he took off yelping getting multiple stings. Few days later I pulled the SxS up about 15-20 ft away to observe them and they started instantly attacking me. Smoking them good does help a little, but man these things are vicious. It should. Now is a great time to work bees. If they are mean now wait until July….
You need to add a box now. When they are 80% add. Take one drawn out frame from below and move it up in new box. Mean bees are no good. I would consider ordering a new queen. My new bees could knock out Rocky Balboa. I opened the top and almost instantly about 50 bees hit me in the face net. Question: My bottom brood box has about 8 frames that have some type of action going on in each frame (brood, honey production, etc). I think it is time to add another 10 frame box on top. Thoughts? When do you know when it is time to add the next box?
I had one once that would eat your a$$ up. And they would stay on you to my building 60-70 yards away. Even suited up they would get in. I’d take 20 stings easily. I quick working them and doing anything with them.Didn’t somebody here have a hive of bees so mean they had to get rid of them? Some of those Congolese bees lol b
