Ive said this several times over the years, but my neighbor died in a treestand fall. He got me interested in archery and hunting many years ago.
He was able to bless his wife with a substantial life insurance check. But 5 years later his lonely widow was stabbed to death by a gold Digging boyfriend that didn't take being broke up with well. Your family needs you, bad things happen when you aren’t around to protect them. wear your harness or stay on the ground.

I always use a harness with a fixed or climbing stand but admit I never do in my ladder stands. I feel it’s not needed with how you get in and out and secured while in it.

Well not all ladder stands are secure around you. I got plenty of the cheap comfort zones that’s just a narrow seat. I’m getting too old to risk that crap though. However, I stay strapped in and have been using a lifeline for a few years now. I used to just climb up and hook into the tree strap but once I started using the lifeline, I really like them. Just helped a buddy put up a nice 2 man stand and the first thing I did was give him a lifeline. Now, I will say this, putting a ladder stand up can be scary. Someone has to be the one to climb up and tie on that lifeline or tree strap. His stand had those safety jaw thingies and it was still scary as h$ll until I got that Treeline on and was strapped in.

You wonder how there weren’t more accidents years ago. Or maybe there were and we just didn’t hear about them? Don’t ever remember dad or any of his friends talk of wearing a harness and all they sat in were those chain on things with screw in steps. Or a wood platform in a tree with wood steps. I mentioned on here before, my dad actually designed an aluminum climber back in the day. Everyone and their mother came and borrowed that thing. I know no one ever strapped in.

Wear your harness and have a plan to get back into the stand or self rescue. I carry a pair of stirrups I can use to either help me get back in the stand or to the ground if the worst happens. I also just don’t climb as high as I used to. If I’m going to be off the ground I’ll drop a pin in google maps and text the location so people know where I’m at if I need help.

Same. And my ladders all have two straps and taken down annually
Now that I don’t do. I always check them before climbing and replace straps as needed. Probably should. I have no where to store that isn’t in the weather.

I left two out this year for the first time ever. I take them down, and store them in a barn. They last a lot longer.
