I’m going to try them out for the first time this year, Salt River out of my canoe. Plan to put in at either Van Buren or River Road. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

FWIW, they're not at Van Buren yet. We checked it yesterday morning. Caught several crappie on accident, and one little male white bass.

Keep us posted.

How do ya get from Van Buren up the creek? Last I saw silt had really built up and you couldn't get a boat through it. It's been several years though but even back then I always saw boats hugging the bank to find water deep enough

There's a decent channel plum up to the split. Just stay in it and take it slow.
Lotta times in the summer, I have to take my longtail and flat bottom to get past the bridge. It does get skinny at times.

Went twice last week and caught four both days. Fried them last night.

Caught three more on a quick trip last week. Tried a different spot last Sunday in the cold and blanked but only fished for maybe 30 mins before I got tired a dealing with ice in the rod guides.

With the forecast they're calling for it'll be blown out long before the weekend
According to WPSD-TV weather it looks like the low pressure system is tracking far enough north that the 5” rains will miss most of us. Still looking at a pretty good 3-5” rain event along the river counties but nothing like that had on the table for the majority of the state yesterday thank God.

Got a buddy really wanting to go. I know we got some sucky weather coming that will screw with the water levels. Not asking for your “secret spot” but if you here some decent reports, especially around CKy, please share.
