Been looking at Masterbuilt gravity series. Anyone have one? pro and cons? Looking for something more set it and forget it. I do not want a pellet btw before anyone recommends it. Buddy had one in Nashville and the smoke flavor was just not strong enough for my taste.

I’ve looked at them them online. Is it all charcoal? Wood? Or either? Do they use like the special “lump” stuff and if so how common is that to find?

From the videos I’ve watched, you can use lump or briquettes. To smoke you can put wood chunks in the hopper and/or the
ash tray. I use lump in my komado style but I order it. It’s pretty expensive. Lowe’s usually has cowboy brand. Lump, catches faster and burns hotter but you get a better smoke ring with briquettes, I think.

If you have not use B & B lump I recommend it. I get it from Academy Sports.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I bought the MB 800 gravity series. I’ve done ribs, wings and chuck roast. About as close as you can get to offset firebox bbq flavor in a set it and forget it setup that I’ve tasted so far. Guess we’ll see about the electronics over the long haul.

It uses a lot more fuel than my akorn kamado. Kamados are the most fuel efficient grill/smoker so I guess it’s comparing apples to oranges.

I haven’t tried out the griddle yet, either. Not sure how a I feel about a charcoal griddle. Although I’m interested to see about the kiss of smoke flavor from the griddle.
