Friend of mine just had his computer crash ... took it to the local expert and he could NOT retrieve the files but he recommended an outfit in California that he said has the capability of recovering the information ... the place of last resort.

My friend called them and they said it will cost him somewhere between $2,000.00 and $4,000.00 and they WON'T guarantee complete success.

I haven't backed up all my files in years but .... guess what I'm doing right NOW. 😎

I keep paper copies of everything at work. Wouldn’t be fun but it’s doable. With all the ransomware, you have to have backups.

At home, I could care less. Lose some pictures, meh.

You can't get there from here.

Get a free Microsoft or Google account. Also many have Apple accounts with their phone plan. All of them offer more free online space than most people will ever use.
Amazon Prime also gives you space I believe.

My work laptop crashed 2 weeks ago. It had complete hard drive failure. Luckily we have a cloud server system that everything backs up on. Now I have a new high powered Dell one.

I bought a Simplex 250 GB back-up unit in 2007 and after just now backing all my stuff up it's just a little over half full so I guess I don't really have that much on my current computer but I'd hate to lose what I have.

My friend and his wife that had the crash had ALL their current financial and tax information on that computer, not to mention pictures and personal stuff. Even though they can recreate a lot of it from paper, it really hit them hard.

My Army Son and DIL had one of those remote Storage Hard Drive things with all their Skydiving videos on it. The DIL dropped it on a Marble floor when they were stationed in Italy. It rattles inside...kaput now and they wanted $2K to $4K to Attempt to recover it with No Guarantees.

Speaking of Ransomware, St. Joseph was recently hit and and some sites were down for a month. Google it. They tried to keep it "hush hush". Talk about a patient safety disaster waiting to happen. I bet they still don't have all their paper charts scanned and a few lost charts most likely never will. Monthly full and daily incremental off-site/off-network backups if you're in IT. I'm sure someone lost their job because of this.

^...Ye of little faith, said, as I watch Murray and Sal of Impractical Jokers massage people, beachside. Funny show.
I’m of the belief you are the reason for the current shittery of this site. Tell me why I’m wrong. You have at very least been pushing for a more unusable site.

Of course everyone who posts here now get the complimentary archived treatment. Good job, I understand why you rarely post any longer.

Didn't even watch the video but backing up to an earlier date using the standards M$ restore only restores system files and registry to get you back up and running due to an os error, not restore documents or self created files. You can restore from cloud storage, if you have it, which really is the way to go unless it's sensitive material.
