Whatever data you can obtain from a balloon is not going to be the tipping point which makes China stronger than the US lol. I’m totally fine with shooting it down, I just think any hysteria about it is laughable.

It’s not laughable that that our only true near peer adversary, a communist nuclear power, blatantly violated our airspace and then told us to shut TF up about it. I hope this is the wake up call many people need. We’re going to fight china. It’s just a matter of when. And when that fight comes it will impact everyone in this country and most people in this world. This is why we’re rushing to near shore industries and build chip plants to mitigate some of the supply shortages that will result which admittedly is our own doing. We’re also entering into new alliances like AUKUS and the pacific countries are starting to build up their militaries seeing the writing on the wall.

What I’m saying is that this balloon incident won’t be a wake up call for anyone who doesn’t already see China as our biggest rival/competitor. I do think they will eventually surpass us, simply because of their larger population, but will probably be much weaker than they could be because of their backwards government and economic system. We also have a massive geographic advantage in that they are surrounded by enemies and we are “surrounded” by two oceans and two weak countries.
