Cold weather gear

Not my deal, but saw it on ebay while looking and remembered Ash saying he was slim, thought it may save him some dough. (I need a double x)

Yeah, three X's hurt my feelings. Had to go up one size for both my boys and wife also.

Remember, this year has been exceptionally colder than recent norms. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on something I didn't plan to use all that much. Unless you're a late season bow hunter or even late MZ hunter, most of the time you don't need that much.

Ive got $100 set of bibs and jacket from Walmart about 10 years ago. Not my favorite but they have a removable lining that I usually keep out. I will admit I had to put them back in after an icy and snowy opener in Jefferson.

What he is saying. My Sitka gear is about a size smaller than I like. I need to get rid of a little fat so it fits better.

So Sitka folks, what are you wearing under them? For that money I’d expect little or thin stuff and them to still do their job. Just wondering. Stuff is nice for sure.

Replying so late to this, on days that’s it’s low 20’s underneath I wear just a medium weight base layers.. “pick them up at Academy” or wherever. Colder than 20’s, go for heavier base layers. Nothing fancy.. learned this the hard way, if you have to walk very far to the stand or blind.. pack them with you, then put on before you go up a tree… promise you’ll stay nice and warm all day!!!

Agree. If you sweat walking to your stand then you will get cold regardless of whether you paid $20 or $200. Gotta pack them in.

I was reading negative reviews on the cold weather stuff and nearly all the 1s and 2s were guys walking in fully dressed getting sweaty and freezing to death. Not very helpful but entertaining.

Sitka, warmer than the Columbias they replaced, quieter and better fit too.

I like military surplus cold weather gear, polypropylene long jammes and tops are excellent base wear

I just got the First Lite Omen Stormshelter jacket for my son for Christmas. I kinda based this purchase off reviews, so far my only thought is it would have failed the eye test for me. Hopefully I’ll get his opinion on it very soon. Probably give it to him early, he’s in the Navy and comes home next Friday. He’s itching to hunt big time. I wore his waterproof jacket during the downpour on the 11th of Nov, got wet, his jacket sucks.

Just to follow up on this.

I didn't get cold any day in my mt050 but it's just too heavy to lug up and down these mountains one to two miles each way strapped to my pack. My plan is to sell these or keep, hell I don't know I already have a small fortune in hunting clothes, and try kuiu's super down burner parka and super down pro pants. I already have the super down ultra set but I have "outgrown" them. Sitka is still way too heavy, so they're out for sure. Mt050 takes up a lot of space on my pack as well.
