Just curious how many people use red dots on their turkey gun, and if so whats some pros and cons of trying to hunt with them instead of iron sights. And i dont care to spend the money as long as i get one that is good quality. So what would you guys recommend if i do decide to go with this instead of iron sights

I use bushnell red dot ts25. It’s 1X and you can adjust the brightness of the dot. Comes black or camo for about $100. Been using it for many years on 12 gauge killed lots of turkeys and some yotes. Also have a EOTech L3 on a 5.56 rifle for many years about $400. And just bought a 410 single shot with a RedDot 1x30 on it. Update that ts25 probably been on gun ten years no problems. Have put it on girlfriends 12 gauge and three of my friends 12 gauges.

I switched to a red dot on my turkey gun about 5 years ago and wish I had years ago. You can get that dot on center if your pattern if your gun doesn’t shoot perfect with your bead and also prevents misses from not being on the bead just right or not having your head down for cheek weld etc. I also like that you have a better field of view with a red dot versus a bead. You pull up a bead and the barrel is blocking most the view of the turkey, where as with a red dot you can see the whole neck area and make a more precise shot seeing exactly where you got that dot sitting.

I can’t shoot a red dot at all. My eyes don’t agree with them. I like a bead, if I had to go optic, it would be a scope or something with etched glass/reticle.

Some folks love them and trust a battery to never fail though.

Yes it's been a few years since I hunted but I have a 12 Ga. Winchester SRX Longbeard 3.5" chamber with a TruGlo Gobblestopper red/green dot that has a solid 3 MO at 30 yds. (24" at 30 yd. in the outer ring), about the limit of the gun with lead (no TSS) and my confidence in my pattern/aim. If you put the dot on the bird's head with a clean shot within 40 yds. they will go down. Pattern it before game day = win. If you are a bit further out and have a clean shot then you can get lead on target out to 60 yds. I have never needed to take a shot that far. Much better than trying to awkwardly put iron sights (or no sight, just a bead) on target.
