I never understood how anyone could come one your property and you have to fight to remove them. The squatters stuff is just crazy. I think the law should state that if you are on my property, and you don't leave, then I could take that as a threat and put a bullet between your eyes. I'm not talking about a legal renter. Its the dumbest law on the books to me.

I would think that would be considered straight out trespassing period.
Face it laws are designed for the criminals.

Happened to my brother. He has a lake house in TN that sits empty 11 months out of the year. A family broke in, changed all the locks, and even forged a deed and had their mail routed there. He would not have known about it if the neighbors hadn't called him to see if he was renting it out....they were upset about the junk cars sitting in the driveway. The family got away with it for almost a month, sheriff's department said it happens all the time.

I dont think they do but i believe if you put up signs saying it private property they will get them out.
We have several vacant homes diwn town with squatters living in them.
A guy I know bought a house last year to fix up as a rental. He soon realized that there were people breaking in and sleeping there at night. He found needles, condoms(hey at least they used them) and other various disgusting things they left behind. When he called the cops about it he was told that unless he put up a no trespassing sign there was nothing they could do. I'm still not convinced that that's correct but that's what they told him. I haven't talked to him in a while so I don't know how it all ended up but he has the house looking a lot better now.

For those of you in Central Kentucky....I heard that squatters moved in to the house at the intersection of 127 and 1160 in Mercer county prior to it being sold a couple of years ago. I heard they stayed there for quite a while - not sure of the details.

The owner at the time lived in Owensboro and rarely made it over to check on the house. It is a really nice old farmhouse and there are neighbors right across the road....
Did not know the story, but know the house. Owned by Arlie Lay back in the ‘70’s

It happened in a vacant house near me that was in "limbo", but still had water and electric. Some bums were really sneaky and nobody knew they were there until they had lived there for months. They never came out in daylight, and covered all the windows to make it look dark at night. The police finally were called and they were arrested for teaspassing quickly. I have to say they were really clean and didn't tear up the place.

Happened at an empty house here on our road too. Not sure how long the squatters were in there before someone noticed but they left rather quickly upon discovery! I'm guessing they did a lot of damage though because there have been contractors at the house almost constantly since then and I saw dumpster after dumpster of drywall and flooring being hauled out....
