Where do you guys buy these at? I’ve got a coon problem at my house. I’ve tried live traps and they always tear a hole in the side of them and get the bait out.
You can always buy them on ebay. Amazon too i would bet. Since internet mail order i have quit burning gas hunting for what i need. You can get anything on ebay

Any recommendations on improving my success with a live trap?
Try Reese’s cups, break one in half place behind the pressure plate.

The new live traps require a bit of custom reinforcement. Reinforce the seams with hog rigs, rebar tie or zip ties.

Back the trap up against something like a building, wall, tree or log. Place a log on either side so they cant reach in from sides or rear. Can use cinder blocks if you dont mind packing them around.

Shoot in head before you open the door.

If you really want to get after them switch to dog proof and mini marsh mellow’s and a trap teak. Dont set trap to deep in hard dirt. This can cause the trap to stay in the ground vertical and they are able to break the bone in there leg and when you check in the morning there will just be a foot. This happens more with opossum’s than coons.

Your right. I’ve had a possum foot left before. Had coons chew there arm off to get out to.

Blasphemy ^^^ Trade the bag of Reese's cups for the ole 3 step potion.
Works great and cats dont like them unlike marshmallows. 3 step is great also but he was asking for ways to improve his live trap performance. Down side to 3 step is worrying about game getting it.

I put a Havahart in an old 32 gallon trash can, stake it or brace it with concrete blocks so it doesn't roll. The coon thinks its an old hollow log and has got to come in from the front to get the bait. Plus once he's in the trap he can't reach anything outside of the trap to tear up. I use marshmellos cause they are cheap but cat food or most anything will work.

You def dont want any type coon trap within distance of anything of value. Set one in the barn once, he reached an electric extension cord attached to an electric pole saw, chewed every 4 inches of a 25 foot cord, then chewed the pole saw cord flush to the handle. When they get caught, its everything around them’s fault.

idk why anybody set a live trap for coons. My dad does this. Keep telling him don’t but I reckon at his age he just likes to see’em hell idk. Lol. He lets them go if they don’t have a pecker. Lol.
I catch’em all and dispatch them and possums on site.
I set out cans. All I set.
