I would most definitely go dumpster diving:)
Who in their right mind would throw away guns.

I gotta a buddy who works at one of the convince centers here. You would be completely amazed at stuff people throw away. Last year him and his co-workers got a brand new CVA muzzleloader, a Mathews compound bow, a shoe box sized box full of old coins, and more fishing rods and reels than ya could count. The bow, muzzleloader, and coins was all from one person, who they asked were they sure they wanted to throw it away. The reply they got floored them. Lady said it was my husband's chit and since he passed I have no need for things collecting dust.

He swears I'd be amazed at stuff thrown out

You wouldn't believe the dumpster area on a military post. Soldiers leave, can't fit it all in their UHaul and they take it to the Dump station.
I know, you can't get IN there, but I was with my son last year at Ft.
Leavenworth when the current Class left. I saw perfectly good Lawnmowers, Tools Nice Grills and 50 mattresses/ springs just piled up. Good Furniture nuff for 20 houses.
They threw away better stuff than I have in my house.
The Thrift Store on post is also running over.

Afte I got out of the Army I had a month till I started my current job. Went to Labor Finders to have something to do. I would work with homeless people doing manual labor. One day a guy asked if I wanted to go look for stuff in the dumpster behind sams. I said sure. We found a brand new microwave that the glass plate inside had been broken so they threw it away. Also a dolly that was missing one rubber pad, thrown away....we used the microwave in the lunch trailer.

I got a buddy that worked at Goodwill and you wouldn’t believe the stuff people would donate. They would actually allow him to put things back and buy for a little of nothing. That joker had 2-3 sets of golf clubs that as nice as any you’d get made custom at a pro shop. I pulled up to drop stuff off at the GW close to me one day and someone had donated a John boat.

We are truly blessed to live in this country! Hearing stories like these only reinforces that to me. We are all millionaires compared to the rest of the world and yet there are groups of people whose entire existence revolves around being oppressed by the “white man.” I know that this isn’t what this threads about but do you see what I’m saying? These race baiters tell folks over and over that they are victims, that they’re being held back, that they are owed something, when in reality everything is at their fingertips. It’s like the Eagles said in Already Gone “So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key.”

Theres something i learned about people. You can take all the money in this country, and divide it evenly to every single American. In 6 months, it will be back like it is.
Some people just cannot manage money, they will spend it, untill they are right back broke, and start complaing again about how unfair things are.

Somebody is managing the money pretty darn well because I can never seem to get my hands on any. :(

It was either Philly or NYC in the late 80s when the crack epidemic started a large drug ring of teenage boys was busted by city sanitation workers when they started finding trash bags full of $1 bills which law enforcement traced back to the drug ring. Evidently they were making so much money that $1 bills were too much trouble to mess with so they started chunking them in the dumpster.

I struggled most of my life, first time i got a cent job, making more money, i started saving that extra money, instead of ‘upgrading’ my life style, like most people do. Thats the secret. My grandparents raised 4 kids farming during the deppression. Their philosphy was when they were shopping, they would pick an item up and say “ do i NEED this, or do i just WANT this?
Most of the time they left it in the store.
Needs are food, shelter, modest transportation to get to work.
Wants are , boats, campers, extravagant vehicles, new clothes, etc.
Its not rocket science, its restraint.
I started out dairy farming, for 12 years i learned to live on nothing. Once i started making money, i continued to live on nothing( because i was used to it) and began saving, and investing in land.
I still live like a tightwad, and dont have to.

Had a coworker that used to buy the buy pallets of returned goods. Two years ago he found a bunch of pellet rifles, and airsoft guns. The one kept looking suspiciously real. He called my son and asked him to come check it out. He in turn called me when he got there telling me all about it. Sure enough, it was a new, fully functional AK47. The coworker called the state police and asked what to do. They told him he purchased it legally and it was his to do as he wished. He sold it to my son for $400. Two days later the state police reached back out to my coworker and said they needed to take possession of the gun for the ATF for ballistic testing to make sure it hadn’t been used in a crime. My son met them back at his house and relinquished it to them. Roughly 5 weeks later he found out he wouldn’t be getting it back. Turned out it had been stolen from a store somewhere in Nebraska. ATF figured someone had stashed it with the pellet/airsoft guns with intentions of retrieving it and it got away. Coworker gave him his money back. I told my boy he’d never purchase another AK that cheap again. Lol.

We don’t live like tightwads, certainly not my wife, but I get what you’re saying. I grew up poor but parents instilled the idea that plenty of people out there have it worse than me. I will WANT things but struggle to buy them. My wife has always been, well frustrated, with me. I’ll want something, look, spend time thinking and looking, then be like, “Nah, I don’t need that.” She wasn’t raised rich but better off than me, and if she wants to drop big time change on something she’ll do it. I feel like one of the reasons I can probably make it if I take the early retirement is that I live below my means. We’re not rolling in it but could certainly afford a nicer home, nicer cars, etc…but I’d rather be satisfied with what I have than go into major debt over things I’ll have to work until I’m 80 to pay off. I choose life. I don’t think I’m a tightwad but I’m not gonna drop 60K on a vehicle if my 20K vehicle is getting the job done. Working in public schools as long as I have I’ve seen plenty of things that will make you shake your head. I see kids (and some adults) from low income families drop hundreds on new Jordans every time they come out. I bought my little girl a pair for Christmas but I never owned a pair in my life and no use starting now. I try not to judge but it’s a head scratcher. Shoes over groceries and basic needs. Sure, that makes sense.
