My hope when I retire is to spend a lot of time on stand between early ML and gun season. All good times with the week before gun possibly being the best week of the year. I will say, where we hunt, end of Nov and Dec has been good that last 4-5 years. Just work has kept me out of the woods.

I always consider Halloween to be the unofficial start to the rut where the big ones get involved.

My wife’s birthday is on Halloween. When we first started dating I was to take here out for her birthday that evening. I went deer hunting and rattled in a good buck and got a shot. I hit high and I called her and told her I had to cancel our date because I had to look for the buck. I didn’t find the buck that night but got another shot a week later and killed it. So I ended up getting the buck and the woman. It’s been 30 years this year.

I started this week to hunt everyday with bow till gun season. Halloween my sons would hunt instead of getting candy. Deer hunting only gets better from here on out.

Never made any difference round here. But I like to be out there last week of oct on and thru gun season. After gun season I’m done most times.
I will be this year for sure. Cause I’ve got some fencing to do and huntin house build this winter. Wife wants huntin house so I guess I oughta get it built.

Week before and after are the best two of season, imo. I’m hunting next Saturday and Sunday if I can get somebody to cover on call form. First week of on call with new job starts tomorrow. Talk about bad timing.

Halloween day starts my 2 weeks of serious stand time. I'll hunt every day until I kill a buck. Been doing that for as long as I can remember (2 weeks prior to gun opener).

I've probably posted this before but I'm not going back to find it. Read an article that was based on the most BC bucks listed and their kill dates. It said the best day of October was the 31st. The best day of December was the 1st. The best day of November was the 11th.
In other words, November, November, November.
