World of difference between 70# compound and 70# recurve.
Grandson just got him a new compound, set it to 65#. He is 15. In a recurve or longbow he likes to shoot 40-45#.
A 70# compound you are holding, what 15# after breakover? A 70# recurve, you are holding 70# at full draw……
A 30# recurve you are pulling twice the weight of a 70# compound at full draw. Think about it. You always need to drop bow weight going traditional.
Trying to pull too much creates bad habits at the least, and injuries to your self at the worst.
The object is to have fun.
Yessir.
I'm a shining example of a fella pulling too much weight and ending up half crippled lol.
80 to 100 pound compounds, 65# longbows and recurves for 20 years. I'm still shooting 70# wheel bows, but am currently shooting 34# on a recurve, AFTER cortisone shots in my shoulders. I can't even hold anchor with 45# anymore.
Hebrew's work is to blame for most of it, but I'm sure the heavy bows almost daily didn't help a thing.

Way I look at it. The 70lb compound still has to get there. The recurve does too but I’m only drawing it, not holding it.

This is the bow I have, I’m shooting it and I’m not buying another one. If I see a lighter bow at a yard sale for a nickel, I’ll buy it.

Call me girly if you want, but to keep shooting, i had to drop pounds. I know many that wouldnt, and would never show up with less than a 60# bow, that they wind up drawing maybe 20” .
Im just not that guy ( girl) 😄

I can full draw it 🤣.

I’ll put down my compound after the end of this season and shoot Trad till I get a pass through.

Look forward to seeing y’all.

Funny thing is that when I had to drop poundage from 60 to 40# due to shoulder problems (or girly), I make more good shots, and the deer die just as dead.

I recently purchased a 45 lb Bear Kodiak Hunter in anticipation of the need for less poundage in the future. I may start using it this summer instead of the 50#, haven't decided yet.

Well, Sandman and I made yet another attempt yesterday afternoon at the Clay WMA. He keeps telling me that there are deer there. I'm standing my my former statement that Carp got the last one! No deer or deer sightings for either of us!! I'm getting desperate!!

Carp...I checked out a spot I had in mind for you if ever you make it back to clay. Lots of tracks and poop with some rubs and scrapes. Found an isolated patch of white oaks that backed up to a clear cut. It's a really good looking spot. Only problem is it's one of those you can't get there from here kinda spots. Lots of weeds and lots of briars to sort through.
