I understand that, some 12ga slug loads (depending on the weight of the gun) kick harder than a .375 H&HI just don't think my shoulders can handle a slug gun anymore. They are popping and cracking like slipping gears.

Bunch of whiner elitists. If you gave a bow hunter $100 they’d complain because they wanted the crossbow hunters $100 too.Bow hunters mad about something? It couldn't be...
I remember people taking slugs and taking a pocketknife and cut a X across the top of it thinking it would split in four pieces on impact. Is there any truth to that?Ive been casting and loading these the last few years.. Its a 525gr slug with a wide meplate. Its taken some tinkering but Ive worked up a load for my 1100 that I can get into just over 2" at 57 yards with open sights and a load for my mossberg(cantilever barrel/scope) that goes into about 2 1/2" at 85-90 yards.. Its fun to mess with and sure as heck cheaper to shoot. That and I can load up or down as I want.
I also put a limbsaver recoil pad on both my slug giuns, mostly for shooting off the bench. They help..

I cast the 7/8oz Lee Keydrive slugs. Use a 20ga Nitro card so the wads don’t stick in them. They shoot fantastic at 50 but something happens between 60 and 100 yards to about 1 in 5 out of my smoothbores.Ive been casting and loading these the last few years.. I always heard th deer did that to make them mushroom.I remember people taking slugs and taking a pocketknife and cut a X across the top of it thinking it would split in four pieces on impact. Is there any truth to that?
I killed a deer with a slug the other day. Full pass through and could hear it ricochet off the frozen ground. Sounded like a dang mortar shell whistling and cracking branches. I said a prayer there were no hunters beyond that hill, there wasn’t supposed to be anyone in the area or I wouldn’t have taken the shot to start with.I really don't see why anyone would want to limit themselves to a dang shotgun and slugs. I was a Ohio-only, shotgun-only deer hunter for years before coming across the river. Slugs buy you nothing but a sore shoulder.
They don't even cut down on hunter morbidity. The old saw about slugs, because of their rainbow trajectories don't carry all that far belie the fact that a center fire rifle round tends to disintegrate on impact, whereas the old punkin ball is far more likely to ricochet intact and keep going.
I'm sorry. Take it from an old Buckeye: somebody needs to staunch this idea in a hurry.
My brother killed an 8 with a 12 gauge slug a few years ago and it dropped. I mostly use my ML where I hunt. I prefer it to a rifle in my situation.I'm totally ignorant on a lot of things, but I'm really ignorant on shotguns/slugs. How accurate are they, and what is the effective killing range for a "normal" shotgun/slug combination?
Slugs......the only thing I've hunted with for 20+ years other than arrows, no complaints.I really don't see why anyone would want to limit themselves to a dang shotgun and slugs.
