Shot a 11 point at 9:10 this morning. 111 yards from me immediately dropped all 4 legs straight out and death kick. Watched a spike walk out of the field took it 4-5 minutes deer not moving went to pack all my stuff and recover. Looked up once everything was put up and the deer was gone. All kinds of hair but found 0 blood. Did a back and forth search over the hill where I would've though it went to and didn't find no sign of deer. Lesson learned for me, I just hate hunting this many days and first time I switch the safety off all season and couldn't find it. I killed a coyote a few days ago that was 125-130 yards. No clue what happened. I guess I'm hanging it up till next year.
I've hit several deer that did that. Usually was lucky to find a couple. They will swallow their own blood. It may take a radius of 50 yards to start finding the blood trail again. I always hated to shoot something like that, and cannot find it. It happens to hunter's quite often

I got a nice buck and had almost given up the track...at first light, at about 90 yds in middle of field. Looked hit and ran to woods, immediately heard one loud crash just inside tree line. Waited about an hour before I went to retrieve and oddly didn't see any blood where I knew it was hit or direction it ran. Still not deterred, entered the woods expecting to find quite easily and nothing. Looked around at first not concerned yet but nothing. Backed out and started about a 40 yd line grid from (suspected at that point) hit point to about 40yards inside woods...still not a drop of blood located. There was no way I had clean miss, so I backed out and started over (3 more times) but same results each time. Starting to except my poor marksmanship about 2 hours in, decided to just go one more time around area...There he was! Made it to creek around 75 yards into woods...Perfect shot placement right in the bread basket. Looking back to his retreat line, finally found 2 drops of blood only just on the edge of creek...AND THAT IS IT... Nothing still jives with what I saw, heard or had ever experienced before. The next week, exact scenerio played out in exact and I mean exact same area, with a doe. She even fell 2 yards away from the buck on opposite side of creek. Blood sprayed everywhere from 3 yards away at hit point to where she fell.

Obviously not like your scenario but just wanted to share, i guess to say you just never know for sure and to ask anyone else ever experience that before??? Sorry to be long winded but like to be detailed...lol

Shot a buck a few years ago in the middle of a frosty field. Knew I'd nailed it good. It jumped, back kicked, turned, and ran down the side of the ridge, jumped a fence, and disappeared into a wild plum thicket. I waited a bit & then went to where I'd shot it, expecting find the I-75 of blood trails. NOTHING. But I could see where he went thru the disturbed frost so I just followed the frost trail instead, looking for blood along the way. Not a drop of blood to be found ANYWHERE. Finally found him deep within the plum thicket, dead as a doornail, with a hole going straight thru his heart & both lungs. AND THE ONLY BLOOD ANYWHERE WAS WHERE HE'D FALLEN WITH THE EXIT HOLE ON THE DOWNSIDE.

I'll never hunt with a .243 again.

Where do you hunt? If your near me, I'd come out tomorrow and help you look again. Same thing happened to me with my son. No blood until we found the deer about 75 yards away in the creek bed.
