Next season, how to deal with neighbor's dogs

We saw less than 25% of the deer we normally see, at what used to be my best spot. People that bought the place next door now have two dogs that run loose. They got a heeler and some kind of mixed breed in early Summer. I get pics of them every single day, on both cams in the little woods that borders them. It's a natural funnel/bottle neck. My top 3 bucks have only been on camera in that woods this year, and since mid September, not a single daylight pic of any of them. For that matter, I've only had one daylight pic of any deer in the last 3 weeks. They come in an hour or so after dark, and leave well before daylight. Damn dogs. What is the best way to approach them about their dogs? They deer hunt on their 65 acres, so I can't imagine they've not experienced reduced sightings as well. I'm a dog lover, so no way I'm going to hurt their dogs. But I'm also not going to put up with them messing up my deer hunting again next year.

Talk to your neighbor and let them know that you and a buddy will be running a trap line and that you are letting them know as a courtesy. Let them know you will have snares and footholds out and they are likely to capture a dog same as a coyote. Hell, tell them you are running them year round. You never have to set one trap. Just try the bluff. If they value their dogs maybe they will keep them put up. This makes you the compassionate good guy neighbor that looks out for their best interest. If that doesn’t work I guess you can try getting ugly about it.

Is it legal to run snares outside of trapping season?

If no improvement after speaking with the owners, keep a bb gun in the blind with you. A sting in the ass may work

Find new place to hunt.

If they’re really the cause of your deer issues then you will have to kill the dogs. If you get caught or neighbor finds out you will have holy hell to pay. Unfortunately you already advertise on this site so if the dogs disappear you’ll be first suspect. Also, If the dogs just disappear the neighbor will just go get new ones. You’re completely screwed. Talking to neighbor won’t do any good. You’re in Kentucky not New York. Dogs run free. Find a new spot. Thousands and thousands of acres in Kentucky.

That sucks man.

There is no "A" answer. If you talk with the guy and he doesn't do anything - very likely - then the dogs disappear you'll be blamed....even if you had nothing to do with their disappearance. And if the dogs do disappear, he'll get new dogs....

People please clear this up for me. I thought every county in Ky had leash laws so no dogs should be running loose. Also some northern states have laws that dogs cannot harass wild animals except during hunting season in the act of hunting. Not sure still in effect but in Wisconsin you used to be allowed to shoot dogs running deer. I’ve had same problem when I first got this farm. Went to neighbors and showed them where the dogs were going under the fence. Showed them pictures of their dogs on my property. They just said that’s not our dogs. The dogs disappeared. They got new dogs have not seen or got pictures of them over here. I get a picture of other dogs here and there no problem but these dogs were running my land day and night at least every other day. Hey @Eclipse why should I have to sell my farm or find a new place to hunt because the neighbors are breaking the law or just don’t have any respect for their neighbors property. If you know the neighbors and are friends talk to them if not don’t say a word to anyone just take care of business.

Selling my property wasn't an option that I'd consider either. I still have dogs that occasionally come through but none that are routine anymore.
