For anyone interested in installing or maintaining food plots, locating the best spots for food plots on your fam, herbicides and fertilizers, choosing a seed, or what kind of equipment is needed, then you need to head to Louisville this Saturday, May 1th. Derby City QDMA, in sponsorship with Cabela's Land Management, and Limestone Farm Equipment is hosting a FREE training day, open to anyone. Registration will begin at 8 AM at The Valor Academy School, located on Bardstown Road, about 1.5 miles south of the Gene Snyder Freeway. Seminars will begin about 8:30 and run till noon. At that time, we head to a nearby farm and do hands-on training, weather permitting.
Seminar speakers include Rans Thomas, a nationally known wildlife biologist formerly with Tecomate Farms and Tecomate TV show, and now the Chief Biologist for Cabela's Land Management Division. Other speakers will include Jason Nally, the private lands biologist for KDFW, Justin Lawson from QDMA National, and a representative from Roundstone Seed to discuss NWSG items.
There are raffles that day, including a Weatherby rifle, which will be given away that day. Cabela's will be there with seed and sample packs. QDMA books on food plots will be on sale as well. Door prizes as well.
Equipment is being furnished by Cabela's and Limestone and will feature demonstrations from the large tractors and drills, to ATV type equipment, and down to "throw and grow "techniques. Bring your boots and a folding chair as we will be putting hand seeders and backpack sprayers on you and teaching the right way to do things. You will also be allowed to try out the tractors, seeders, etc.
Breakfast and lunch is being provided by the Valor Academy NASP team, for a nominal fee, as a fundraiser for their team.
For more info, go to www.derbycityqdma.com or call 502-773-2204. Prior registration is not required.
