Quality Matters

The scope glass used today, even on the cheaper lines is way better quality than glass used even 5 years ago. The bigger difference is going to be on the erector assembly and adjustment knob gearing. Cheap printed or vapor deposition metal gears, nylon gears tend to slip and jump under recoil and you get zero shifts. The higher end scopes, not always, but most of the time, use a tighter tolerance and the assembly stays put. Another issue is the Nitrogen purge and fill used. The inner workings have got to stay 100% sealed from the atmosphere or your going to get some distortion. Cheaper scopes just cant be made as tight or the cost goes up.....my top end Vortex scopes are just as clear as my Nightforce scopes, so this is NOT a brand specific issue, its a mfg cost vs price point issue. You get what you pay for the majority of the time with opticle equipment.

I really expected these to be more expensive for some reason but after just looking them up they’ve got me Intrigued. How do these compare to a VX3?
Personal opinion....as good or better. I haven't bought a leupold since being introduced to Meopta, at approx same price point, 10-12 yrs ago. I currently have 5-6 Meopros/Optika 5s. Previously, the Meopta Meopro was rebranded to Zeiss Conquest and the Cabelas Instinct scope lines, not the case now
Interesting read.

I have three of the Meostars, which is a step or two up from the Optika5, which replaced the Meopro.

A few of my rifles wear Leupold scopes, but only because I got them on trades and I can tell the difference. I’ve used Weaver, Bushnell, Tasco, Simmons, Redfield, and Nikon, and I won’t knock any of them. One of my favorite scopes is a Simmons 44 Mag $100-$125 scope??? It’s perfect on my Marlin 30-30. The best I’ve ever had the privilege of shooting with is a Huskemaw on a Best of the West 7mm. The rifle and the scope were far superior to the shooter, but if you want to shoot 1000 yards it’ll cost a bit. I’ll never be able to afford the set up, but it sure was sweet, kind of hard for me to justify a $6000-$7000 rifle and a $1500-$2500 scope.

Not surprising that most on that list are built in China. Except, the Instinct that’s built by Meopta.

I have a Weaver K-10 that I bought around 1970. The yardage marks are worn off on the adjustable objective and it doesn't seem as clear as it used to be. ,(could be my eyes) It came with a lifetime warranty but I don't know if they would still honor it. I don't even know if they still are in the USA. Anyone ever have any dealings with them? Thanks in advance

Doesn’t Natchez still sell Weaver scopes? I see them in their emails and flyers all the time.
