KDFWR got raises too…and they look to be much more competitive.

*So I’ve heard.
Way back in 1978, I took the exam for a Game Warden and passed. A friend was the county GW then and told me I had the job if I wanted it. The pay was really low, you had to furnish your own vehicle, they only provided a shirt for a uniform etc. My wife and family talked me out of it. I’ve always regretted that decision…..

From what I understand that was the norm with a lot of law enforcement agencies across the board. At least around here.

There was a Caneyville city cop they said back in the I guess 60’s or 70’s and had been out doing cop things, writing tickets and stuff and come to find out didn’t even have a drivers license himself. 😂😂😂

If I was guessing, you are one of MANY people who wanted to be a CO as a career and chose not to because it’s hard to survive a career when you’re hired on barely above poverty level.

You chased your dreams a lot further than most.

Trust me, I know. My wife was traveling every day from western Meade County to Louisville as she was in the Masters program for teaching, we struggled big time.
That sounds just like me and my wife at the time only I started corrections in 99'.. My wife and I both were still in college, she was substitute teaching(at the time, shes a teacher now) and I was going to school and working at EKCC.. I remember our budget allowed me $10 per day,$8 for gas and $2 for a couple pops. I ate at work.. We were able to order out once per week then.. Tough but good times

I know the one who owns the store even owns a bed and breakfast from what I have heard, been hooking up out of state hunters with leases putting them up, processing there kills and feeding them in the restaurant!
Alot of people are really down on his processing including me!
Got shorted very bad on a deer last yr and will never take another one there.
Very friendly guy and has done his job very professionally from my interactions over the yrs but has ruffled alot of feathers bringing in out of staters to make money off of!
If there’s a CO financially benefiting from the same people he’s supposed to be regulating there may be a state ethics branch issue. I’d be curious if any of that has been cleared by the kdfwr
