I know I’m in WV , don’t really know if that makes a difference or not , but have any of y’all ever witnessed this second rut ? I have never seen it myself , might catch one sniffing around but that’s not unusual at anytime , down south they speak of it all the time , how about you guys and gals

Ive seen quite a bit of rut behavior in areas that have high doe numbers late in the season. Not so much in areas with low numbers. Just my experience.

I think it's got alot to do with deer density. Where there aren't as many deer, most get bred the first time around. Down south deer are thick as fleas and the buck to doe ratio is not nearly as proportional as here or the Midwest. All the does that didn't get bred the first go round come back into heat along with yearling doe fawns so there's good numbers of hot does again. As MH stated above, I've seen plenty of late season rutting but it has almost always coincided with heavy deer densities such as a major food source where the deer have yarded up because everything else has been depleted.
