180 acres in Washington Co. We were so close to figuring out financing (and had even gotten estimates on what it would have taken to put electric and plumbing in old farmhouse on it) when someone went in and absolutely destroyed the house.... shot holes in the roof, ripped up sections of oak flooring and tried to set it on fire, broke out the windows... just destroyed it. No way could we afford to make it liveable again (or to build from scratch) so we had to walk away from the deal. That was 35 years ago and it still passes me off!!!

I was 15 years old when I asked my dad for a loan of $2,000. He went thru the roof and said I was too young to buy a car and I wasn’t even the age to get a license. Assuming I wanted to buy a car.

I told him I didn’t want to buy a car. And he demanded what then?! I said I wanted to buy 200 shares of a stock called Extendicare. Back then you had to be 21 to trade stock so I would have needed him to open the account. He went on to lecture me about “horse race, poor use of money, etc”.

Anyway, Extendicare, a nursing home company, turned out to eventually become Humana. Had I bought it and sat on it all this time with stock splits, I’d probably be sitting on the board of directors by now. LOL
