My wife (who wins a lot or does very well most years in these brackets) has Iona making a run. Either sweet 16 or Elite 8. I picked UConn. These days nothing is surprising. I saw them show how well the play in teams have done in the tournament since expansion and most people don’t even factor them into their brackets. Two have gone all the way to the Final 4. Also saw that since 2010, 11 seeds have a winning record over 6 seeds. C’mon UK don’t help those 11 seeds improve on that record.

I was a big Kyle Macy fan as a kid but when it came to free throws I tried to emulate Jim Master.

I saw Kyle Macy yesterday. He coaches Tennis for Lexington Christian. I’m sure he could still a thing or two about shooting.
I went to his camp in Georgetown back in the 80s and he did a shoot around while talking to us kids. You’re right, unbelievable shooter.

In the early 2000s I wrote articles for a now defunct college basketball website covering OVC basketball. Kyle was coaching Morehead and when I got my first chance to talk to him I told him how much he meant to my grandfather who was a huge fan and the man almost seemed embarrassed by it. “Thank you for the kind words, that was a long time ago.” He spent several minutes talking to me. Humble as pie.

Travis Ford is another one who is very approachable and humble believe it or not, spoke with him a couple times during his tenure at EKU. Average Joe.

I emulated Macy. I had the season and career FT record at Glasgow for 20 years. Had I not messed up an ankle, I’d still have both. Had a bad four game stretch where I missed a few due to not being able to get on my toes properly. I made over 50 in a row multiple times.
Free Throws are Just That. Real Points and there is Noone in your Face. NO excuse for the number that have been Missed by this latest bunch. It has cost them a lot of games, but so has a lotta stuff. I give them a 50-50 chance every game they play, but I think they will come to Play today.

I like Macy. Saw Ford do a few things as a coach in person that just rubbed me the wrong way. 1. He was a speaker at the Ky Assoc of Bball coaches and came in wearing old sweats, a long sloppy shirt, and appeared to just make it up as he went along while he had a crowd there excited to see him (they were pissed afterwards). Honestly, most on this forum would have done a better job.
2. When he was at EKU. I was an assistant with a team that went there for a team camp. There were a bunch of HS teams gathered in the gym as he wanted to talk and put the team through some things for the participants. Well, he was involved in a pickup game when we started arriving with some of his players, probably alumni, locals, etc…and he lost his mind and tried to fight. Got mad and kicked the basketball into the seats. Using the F word excessively. Acted like he was 12 right in front of his campers, players, HS coaches etc…
I’ll give him props for being competitive and accomplishing a lot for a guy of his stature but if it weren’t for his dad being Eddie Ford and the Pitino connection, I can’t imagine he would have went very far in the coaching world. He did well at Campbellsville because Eddie helped him pull D1 transfers. He was not looked upon fondly at EKU. He did get to the tournament and played well that 1 year but he didn’t “earn” a UMASS job from what he did there. That was all Ricky P.

He was nice and accommodating to the press guys and talked for 15 minutes with a few of us right after taking a home L to my Racers. I judge him strictly by that one interaction, he may very well be a dick for all I know.

Of all the coaches I talked with, Matt Painter impressed me the most. Pure class. Mick Cronin was the absolute cockiest little dude ever lol, but he’s the best in the business imho.

UCLA is who I have picked to win it. Just for the heck of it I guess. He does seem like a bit of a punk, but also no nonsense dude, and gets it done. I heard him speak once. Maybe right after he got the Cincy job.

He’s funny when he wants to be. At his first press luncheon back from a short honeymoon he was asked if he was used to being married yet and he replied, “It’s a process, not really but judging by the newest transactions on my bank account I would say my wife is.” Lmao
