Here in Western Kentucky, they are calling for 40-50mph winds and -3 degrees, high of 10 Friday. If anyone has an open crawl space vent, outside shut off water valves or pipes along walls. Please consider adding some insulation that the wind won't blow away. A flat cardboard box with a cinder block on it will be enough to protect water meters.

Ive been sending this to church and family. Best get ready.

That is what we are doing at work. Insulating facilities. We fuel line antifreezed, tested coolant and topped off -30 degree washer fluid last month on vehicles.

Good luck y’all. Stay safe.

You can't get there from here.
Tomorrow is the warmest day this week. I've got to unhook hoses and put the spigot covers on and make sure the vents are buttoned up.
Sounds like I'm sitting by the fire with coffee in the morning and a stiff drink in the evening. Wind in those temperatures makes me want to be a snowbird.

Need to find a good trailer park in Florida on a decent sized lake.

My heated floors will be nice. I had frost proof water spickets put in. This will be the lowest temp they've seen with wind chill I believe. Good test for them. Friday morning I'll be drinking coffee by the window for sure

I found some heavy plastic. Pulled my water meter lid. Laid it flat, stomped it down and trimmed it.

Wrapped my crawl space vent covers in rubber inner-tube. Put some flashing up for chicken coop. Checked well heat lamps and insulation on walls. Generators fueled up, runs and generates. Stand alone Semi truck inverter is working in case family needs to run a freezer. Ventless gas heater is clean and working.

That’s about the best I got for home. Oughta work. It better work… I’m sure I’ll be running a plow, spreading salt or working my real job.

Took a small load of wood to my grandparents for their wood stove in case the power goes out. Picked up a couple bags of chicken feed. Got some gaskets for the carburetor on my generator. Took the carb off 2 times and cleaned it before I got it running. Refilled some 1lb LP cylinders and, covered my crawl space vents after seeing this post.

Unless there is a drastic change in the weather I won't be going home to Kentucky for Christmas. Missed it a few years ago due to snow but going across Jellico Mountain on I75 in 6 degree weather does not sound appealing, especially after a freezing rain and any amount of snow.
Can you imagine changing a tire in that with 15 mph winds?

I’ve worked in Minneapolis/St. Paul in January and February. Utility worker and frankly, some of you need to chill out.
Ive worked on utilities my entire adult life. The more people do to prepare the less danger they put everyone else in. That goes for the roads, water, sewer, gas, electric, fire, emt and police.

Yes it gets colder there. Folks are used to it, houses are built for it. Here we have trailers with a blue tarp for underpinning and folks with heart conditions that put straight water in their cars radiator.

You probably take offense to people filling up their truck with gas all the way too, not because it’s needed but just because it’s a prudent idea.
