Usually I prefer late muzzle because it's the first time all the leaves are off for a gun season but this year they were pretty much gone opening day.
I still like it because they are back in the feeding mode hard.

I agree, some didn't make it through rifle but the ole mr big that was on lock down all rut that u didn't see anymore after Halloween will start a routine pattern and during the daylight. A few years ago , before i had cell cameras had a big mature buck around mid December came by within a 10 minute span each day for 5 days straight. Same time each day same place.

Still got a buck tag but not for lack of opportunities. I’ve had lots of bucks in bow and gun range this year but nothing I wanted to take. I did see a really good one during rifle but I had a young hunter with me and wanted them to take it. We just couldn’t get it within range for them to take the shot. It would have been a poke for me. It was a great exercise in patience and restraint. Regardless late muzzleloader and late bow is one of my favorite times to be in the woods. I know a ridge where there’s still plenty of acorns where I’ll camp out.

Everything got a pass so far. I really enjoy watching them and seeing them use the habitat improvements I’ve made for them. Watched several deer grazing(for hours)in the cereal rye I planted October 29th. Crazy how fast that stuff grows and they preferred it 10 to 1 over the wheat.

Still have mine only have bucks on camera at night. I was injured the week before rifle season so it’s been tough

Got mine on opening day of archery, nice 10 point. I was fortunate. But I will say I missed hunting the rut, its so exciting.

I still have mine, in fact I have all my deer tags. All the deer stopped moving in their usual patterns about four hours into the gun season opener and they haven't really shown up again, even on our cameras. I hope crossbow or muzzleloader can be fruitful.

I tried to punch my ticket on a good size 12 pointer. I sometimes hunt with two T/C Contenders a 7-30 Waters for long range and this year a new to me 357 Maximum for short range shots that present the opportunity. I first saw the buck cross the creek at about 125 yards. I had the 7mm set up on a tripod but it was pointed out the window on the opposite side of the pop up blind. When I tried to move the tripod a leg snagged on the blind and made enough noise to spook the buck. He ran towards the fence line like he know what to do to evade the threat. I never heard him jump the fence into the woods but he moved behind the roll of the hill where I couldn't see him. Ten minutes later over the cutest of the hill I see a wall of tines moving up the hill. I then reach for the 357 max pistol just in case a shot presents itself. The buck takes a quartering turn my way and crest the hill 40 yards from me. I squeeze the trigger the hammer falls to a very loud CLICK. Pistol failed to fire. Hammer struck the safety bar instead of the firing pin.

I still have a buck tag. Took a doe during October black powder but haven’t seen a buck I’d like to take since early October, and he was too far away then. Plan to hunt some this month as work will allow, hope to fill the buck tag then.

I'm holding 3 Alabama bucks tags for my annual trip on Jan 8th. which the rut will be going when i get there, its always a fun trip and last year actually got to kill a mature 5.5 year old buck in the snow which was really cool since I haven't even got to do that here.

The wife an i both still have buck tags. It happens when you have high expectations. At this point in my life i would rather see my wife and family fill there tags over my own. With that said its far from over. An as many of you know i would rather bow hunt and black powder hunt then anything anyway. An like others have said already those big bucks often become patternable late season. Food becomes king. Corn piles and food plots are the places to be. Ruts over. All the mast has been ate up etc. Good luck ladies and gentlemen. But most of all just enjoy the hunts.

I still have my Fort Knox archery buck tag. Need to get thru their last gun hunt and I'll scout to see what's left.
